    How to Read the Data

    KP Index

Measures geomagnetic activity on a 0-9 scale. KP 3+ means moderate aurora chances; KP 5+ means a geomagnetic storm with vivid, widespread displays.

    Solar Wind Speed

Charged particles streaming from the sun. Speeds above 500 km/s energize the aurora. Combined with southward Bz, high speed dramatically increases aurora visibility.

    Bz (North-South Field)

The most important short-term indicator. When Bz is negative (southward), Earth's magnetic shield opens and solar particles flood in, triggering auroras. The more negative, the better.

    Bt (Total Field Strength)

Total strength of the interplanetary magnetic field. Higher Bt (10+ nT) means more energy is available. When paired with negative Bz, it signals strong aurora potential.

    Cloud Cover

Even during strong solar storms, clouds can block the view. Our guides monitor real-time weather radar and drive to clear skies when needed.
