The Arctic Husky Safari 10 km is the longer self-drive dog sledding trip from Rovaniemi, about five hours door to door. Two people share a sled, one driving and one riding, and you swap at the halfway point so both get the runners. Transfers and full winter clothing are included.

Ten kilometres is the point where the ride stops being a photo stop and becomes a drive. It is long enough to settle into the rhythm of the team, feel the sled load and unload through the bends, and go quiet for a while. When you are not on the trail you are in a kota by the fire with hot berry juice, gingerbread and stories from the mushers.

The kennel in Jokela, built in 2025, is ours together with Husky World, long-time mushers and racers who live on site with the dogs. The dogs are conditioned to run, which is why the 10 km route suits them, and dog welfare sets the rules: team sizes, run lengths and rest are decided by what suits the dogs rather than the booking calendar.

What Makes This Tour Special

Our Own Kennel

Built in 2025 in Jokela and run with Husky World, long-time racing mushers who live on site with the dogs.

Warm Break in a Kota

Hot berry juice, coffee or tea, gingerbread and chocolates by the fire, with stories from the mushers.

Transfers & Warm Gear

Program

Program, step by step
  1. Meet and gear up

Meet us at our office at Korkalonkatu 36 in central Rovaniemi, or join the pickup, and get fitted with an insulated jacket, trousers, boots and gloves.

  2. Scenic transfer

About 45 minutes through snowy forests to the husky kennel in Jokela.

  3. Driving lesson

A short tutorial on handling the sled and the commands, for first-timers and experienced drivers alike.

  4. The 10 km husky safari

The group is split in two. One half drives the 10 km trail (about 25 to 45 minutes) and swaps drivers halfway, while the other half warms up in the kota; then the groups switch.

  5. Meet the huskies

Time to meet, pet and photograph the dogs and see where they live and train, then hot juice and biscuits by the fire while the kennel owner tells stories about the dogs and their racing background.

  6. Back to Rovaniemi

We drive back to the city, you return the winter clothing, and we drop you at your accommodation or at the office.

How is this different from the 5 km husky safari?

It is twice the distance on the runners: long enough to settle into the rhythm of the team instead of a short photo ride. For a shorter ride, see the Arctic Husky Safari – 5 km from 179€.

How many people ride on one sled?

Two adults share a sled, one driving and one riding, and you swap at the halfway point. One or two small children can ride along.
