What we do
Most of our guests come to Rovaniemi for the Northern Lights, so the aurora is the centre of what we do. We run three aurora tours from Rovaniemi: a group tour that departs from our office, a small-group tour for up to 8 guests with pickup, and a private tour for 1-8 guests with no time limit. Compare them on our Northern Lights tours page.
In daylight we run Arctic activities with local partners and our own team: husky safaris at the kennel in Jokela that we co-own with long-time racing mushers, reindeer sleigh rides at a family-run farm, snowmobile tours, ice fishing, day trips to the frozen waterfalls of Korouoma and the crown-snow forests of Riisitunturi National Park, a glass igloo sauna and an Arctic spa evening. All of them are listed on one page. Visitors without warm gear can rent a winter clothing set.
We also host apartments, houses and villas in Rovaniemi, many with a private sauna, and we put tours and stays together into one plan on request through Build your trip. Travel companies and DMCs work with us through our partner programme.
How we hunt the Northern Lights
We do not drive a fixed route. Each evening our guides compare cloud models with live solar-wind data and drive to the clearest sky, up to 350 km, across the Swedish border when needed. The aurora tours last 4-12 hours and include professional DSLR photos and hot drinks. The live data we watch is public on our aurora forecast page, and the places we use are explained in the best places to see the Northern Lights near Rovaniemi.
What the Aurora Guarantee means
On our three Northern Lights tours, if your guide cannot photograph you with the Northern Lights during the hunt, you get a full refund. The guarantee does not cover the spa or glass igloo evenings, which are timed for aurora hours but are not aurora hunts. The full explanation, with what happens on a cloudy night, is in our guide to guaranteed Northern Lights tours.
Our guides
Our tours are led by a local team of guides and drivers who photograph every guest under the aurora. Guests name them in their reviews: Rasmus, Tino, Arthur, Laura and Joana, among others. A few words from guests, quoted as they appear on Tripadvisor and GetYourGuide:
"He went above and beyond to make sure we had the best possible chance of seeing the aurora, driving us to the perfect location." Lauren M., Perth, Australia (Tripadvisor)
"Love Rasmus!! Very proactive guide! We saw tons of amazing aurora which made today the greatest day this year." Hou, Taiwan (GetYourGuide)

How we write our guides
The guides on this website are written by our team in Rovaniemi from what we see on tour every night. Where we give numbers about weather, darkness, snow or the aurora, we take them from public sources such as the Finnish Meteorological Institute and NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center, and each guide lists its sources at the end. Prices and tour details are the same as on the booking calendars; if something has changed, the tour page is the reference.
